Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature as we head into spring. As the flowers bloom and the weather warms, there are plenty of ways to appreciate nature.

Capture the beauty of nature with pastels

Dates: 30 September & 1 October 2023
Day/Time: Saturday and Sunday 9.30am - 3.30pm
Location: Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre, Brisbane

Explore the world of chalk pastels, work with plein-air drawing and create evocative Expressionist artworks inspired by the natural environment at one of Brisbane's leading environmental education centres, Karawatha Forest with one of Brisbane's leading artists, Adam Stockdale.

This two-day workshop will introduce students to the medium of chalk pastels via the lens of Expressionism; taking them through the various techniques and tools that pastel artists can utilize and exploring our connections to the natural environment.

Introduction to Drawing

Dates: 1 - 22 November 2023
Day/Time: Wednesdays 9:30am - 12:30pm
Venue: Berrinba Wetlands, Logan, Brisbane

Learn to draw with confidence under the guidance and tuition of Adam Stockdale at a beautiful nature-based location in the Logan City area. Introduction to Drawing offers a comprehensive learning program to build your drawing skills over four weekly sessions with clear explanations of materials and techniques. Learn about perspective, line, value, mark making and shading and how to put these elements together in preliminary drawings. Using graphite, we will look at basic shapes in nature, how to incorporate shadows, manage perspective and much more. If you have always wanted to draw and not had the chance, then this class is for you!

Adam Stockdale (working under the pseudonym Burgkaba) is a Brisbane-based multidisciplinary artist creating artworks that aim to evoke quiet yet deep and touching moments from the audience by thoughtfully exploring themes such as the natural environment, man-made world, spirituality, identity, and the interactions between those elements.

Celebrate the Art of Botanical Painting with David Reynolds

Dates: 26 - 27 September 2023
Days/Times: 9.30am - 4.30pm Tuesday and Wednesday
Venue: The Hive Studio, Brisbane

Over this two-day workshop explore the techniques used to create a beautiful Banksia study with step by step demonstrations and careful planning. Each student will be guided through the process, ensuring confidence to complete a banksia study. Students will learn to hone the techniques necessary for ‘accurate realism’. A detailed line drawing will be available for students to transfer to their watercolour paper.

David is an experienced botanical and natural history artist who enjoys painting in rich natural pigments, always looking to achieve a high level of accuracy within his work. He describes his style as ‘Accurate Realism’ and is always looking to portray his botanical and wildlife subjects with the most accurate detail possible yet doing it in a ‘painterly’ way honouring the watercolour medium.
