Australian Marsupials: Bettongs - Pencils, brushes and oil paint - with Peter Trusler

Discover the art of illustrating mammals with one of Australia's foremost scientific illustrators, Dr Peter William Trusler.

About the tutor:

Encompassing diverse disciplines from geology, paleontology, anatomy, ornithology, ecology, medicine and related educational subjects, Peter's illustrations are highly regarded internationally and feature in numerous popular and scientific publications. He has twice been awarded the Lanzendorf Paleo Art Prize by the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. Peter is a foundation member of the Wildlife Artists Society of Australasia and his design work has featured on national philatelic issues and coins. His passion for oil painting in particular occupies the greater part of his creative time. Peter's all-absorbing interest in various forms of realism has enabled him to explore a diversity of subjects with skill and sensitivity. Trusler's paintings communicate with a deep and personal resonance.

About the workshop:

This four day workshop introduces the participant to two principle ways of seeing and depicting subjects in 2D art. These complimentary processes are fundamental and will advance any artist's and illustrator's abilities, whether just beginning or requiring master-class guidance.

Graphite drawing and oil painting will be the demonstrated media, although the tuition will be applicable to all media. Learn how to refine your perception and be able to express it with fidelity. This workshop will have the privilege of working with one of the most secretive of any subject, the Southern Bettong - Bettongia gamardi, and by doing so, participants will see how the principles enable them to depict any given subject. Throughout the workshop, participants will have been able to use a variety of source material, from skeletal information, skins, photographs and the living animals, to produce their works.

Suitable for artists with basic drawing and painting experience. A materials list will be available on booking. Field trip participation requires the ability to walk along gravel paths with torchlight for an evening walk at Mulligans.

Early bird rate available for this workshop $450.00 for bookings by 1 March 2019: code TRU2019. For further enquiries please contact:
