Drawing is a foundation skill for almost all-natural history art, from a quick field sketch to the most detailed illustration.

  • Dates: 30 May - 20 June 2024
  • Day/Time: Thursday mornings 9.30am - 12.30pm
  • Location: NatureArt LabM16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith, ACT

About the course:

This four-session studio-based course provides a comprehensive introduction to drawing with clear explanations of materials and techniques. Students will learn about perspective, line, value, mark making and shading and how to put these elements together in preliminary drawings. Using graphite, we will look at basic shapes in nature, shadows, perspective and more. If you have always wanted to draw and not had the chance, then this class is for you! Drawing needs minimal materials, is the easiest medium to carry with you in the field and helps you to enjoy the natural environment by looking with a purpose.

Pre-requisites: This course is suitable for 16+ beginners with little to no drawing experience, or for those wishing to build on the foundations of their drawing using the taught techniques.

Materials:  A list of materials will be sent upon enrolment.  Please check your JUNK and SPAM folders if you haven't seen this email within 2 days.

About the tutor:

Canberra based, Renee Prescott, has a passion for sharing her love of nature that many of us walk past or often can’t see. Renee is an avid photographer of nature’s awe-inspiring macro world, with a particular interest in fungi, moss and insects. Over the past years she has complemented her photography by focusing on various art mediums, including graphite; pen & ink; coloured pencil; and watercolour, to re-create the beauty and uniqueness of natural subjects (particularly when photos don’t do them justice). Renee looks forward to sharing her practical knowledge and experience to inspire participants in developing their artistic endeavours with nature.
