Learn how to draw and paint a Laughing Kookaburra with experienced artist and tutor Lesley Wallington!
About the workshop:
The laughing Kookaburra, found throughout Eastern Australia, is one of the largest members of the Kingfisher family and famous for its raucous morning call. In this day workshop we will take a look at Kookaburras' features, character and habits and spend some time making quick sketches from photographs. Students will prepare an accurate drawing ready to paint with transparent watercolour and will finish the day with a completed painting. Easy to follow, step by step instruction will be given throughout the day to guide students through all processes.

Venue: Workspace A, M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith
Learning Outcomes:
Students will gain an understanding of the importance of observation in the field and the fundamentals of sketching and drawing birds. They will also learn basic watercolour techniques, colour mixing, how to layer colour and the steps involved in working towards a finished work.
Pre-requisites/level: This workshop is suitable for 16+ ages, for beginners and intermediate experience.

About the tutor:
Lesley Wallington is a professional, award-winning artist and tutor with more than 30 years’ teaching experience. Her journey in water based media, through studies at the ANU School of Art has resulted in innovative approaches to her painting and competency across a range of mediums. With a background in Biology, Ecology and Mathematics Lesley brings together in her work, a love of art, science and nature.
As a teacher Lesley combines theory and technical advice with straightforward practical instruction in working with watercolour, gouache, pencil, ink and collage. With in-depth knowledge of her mediums and extensive experience teaching all age groups and levels, Lesley has the ability to inspire and direct a class while encouraging the unique style of individual students.
Suitable for beginners and intermediate level students.
