About the workshop:
The tutor will explain the anatomy, ecology and morphology of Flies. Then she will give an example of different colour pattern and texture of Australian native flies and explain how to paint them in watercolours. Students will learn how to produce an initial drawing of an object, how to scale it, what to include in composition, and then learn how to transfer it on paper and produce a beautiful scientifically accurate illustration in watercolour. After the tutorial all students will be asked to produce a finished painting of the fly of their own choice using the techniques they learned during the tutorial. They will have two weeks to finish their painting and send them to the tutor for a feedback.
This workshop will be delivered via the ZOOM application. Once you have registered, you will be sent the materials list to complete the project. You will also be sent (a few days before) an invitation to join the Zoom session by your tutor.
Experience/pre-requisites: this ONLINE tutorial is suitable for people aged 16+ of any skill level from beginner to advanced. Students will require to have ZOOM
About the tutor:
Anna holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Ecology, and a PhD in Botany (Lichen Symbiosis). She is a professional scientist, scientific illustrator, botanical artist and wildlife illustrator. Anna started her scientific career in 2001 in the Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv) and then worked in different Research institutes in Munich (Germany), Edinburgh (UK) and Rostock (Germany as a Scientific Researcher.
Anna is an author of 46 scientific publications on lichen symbiosis; microscopic terrestrial algae; physiology, ecology and distribution of lichens and their photobionts.
Currently Anna resides in Sydney and works on restoration of critically endangered native plant communities and writing a book on Fungi of Malabar Headland National Park. She participates in Australian and International professional exhibitions and competitions on Botanical Art Wildlife Art and Scientific Illustration. Since 2019 Anna teaches botanical and wildlife art for NatureArt Lab in Canberra, combining art and science in her tuition.
