Online Art Class: PEACOCK SPIDERS IN WATERCOLOUR: 23 & 28 November 2021 (Beginners to Intermediate)
Learn all about the incredible little peacock spider and how to illustrate them with watercolour!
About the tutor:
Born in Broken Hill, and now living in Perth, Renata has been painting in watercolour since 1988. She has worked in other mediums too but watercolour fascinates her because of its endless possibilities and challenges! Renata teaches watercolour classes in the northern suburbs of Perth, the main subjects being landscapes, seascapes, animals, flowers, people and more... When she is home though, she LOVES to paint spiders! She loves all spiders, their webs and personalities. Renata has been fascinated by all sorts of little creatures since she was a child. Story books featured insects and spiders in living communities, making homes in mushrooms and having conversations with each other. It was a lovely fantasy world to live in. Now as an adult, she still finds the "little" world fascinating, and have discovered that there are more spiders in the world than just redbacks and tarantulas! There are orb spiders, jumping spiders, crab spiders, and her favourites - peacock spiders! And a whole lot more!
About the course:
These two online art classes will provide an overview of the biology and ecology of peacock spiders, as well as fieldwork approaches and how to find peacock spiders in their natural habitat. Renata will demonstrate how to draw a peacock spider, and then provide a step-by-step guide to painting peacock spiders from washes through to dry brush techniques for details. We will have a range of reference photographs and support material, and illustrated examples of the many species in Australia. Renata will gladly give you all the feedback on your work, and tips you need to create a peacock spider painting with your own style and influence. We will be encouraging participants to do some field research wherever you are in Australia, and we may also arrange a locally guided field trip in Canberra and Perth.
