Learn to paint a beautiful endangered Australia's most beautiful small frogs in watercolour with David Reynolds!

- Venue: NatureArt Lab Studio, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith, ACT
Our chosen subject will be one of Australian native frog - the Green and Golden Bell Frog. To make a dramatic composition, we will use a black background for our little frog. Practical demonstrations of each technique will be shown as we work through our subject. Many of the techniques used like ‘wet on wet’ and ‘dry brushing’, will be carefully explained and demonstrated giving each student confidence in developing their painting skills.
Students will receive a link to a secure Google Drive Folder containing photographic reference and a master drawing to transfer to watercolour paper.
Note: Please have your drawing transferred to the watercolour paper prior to the workshop. You will receive a link to download the reference drawing and reference images. Please download the images onto a portable device (ipad, laptop, tablet or a good quality print if you don’t have a portable device) and bring the images along to the workshop.
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop skills in layering transparent, staining, opaque and granulating pigment
- Understand techniques in building high levels of detail
- Colour mixing using transparent washes
- Creating an iconic Australian frog painting in watercolour
Tutor Details:
David is an experienced botanical and natural history artist who enjoys painting in rich natural pigments, always looking to achieve a high level of accuracy within his work.
He describes his style as ‘Accurate Realism’ and is always looking to portray his botanical and wildlife subjects with the most accurate detail possible yet doing it in a ‘painterly’ way honouring the watercolour medium.
