Galahs in Watercolour - with Lesley Wallington (One-day workshop)
The Galah is one of Australia's best known parrots for its intense pink and grey colours. It is regularly seen in large flocks around Canberra and surrounds looking for nesting places, feeding on grasses or flying through our suburbs. Learn how to paint a portrait of this beautiful bird!
About the tutor:
Lesley Wallington is a professional artist and tutor with more than 20 years’ experience. During this time she has collected a series of awards for her unique and innovative paintings and has followed her journey in water based media through studies at the ANU. As a teacher Lesley combines theory and technical advice with straightforward practical instruction on working with watercolour, gouache, pencil, ink and collage. With an in depth knowledge of her medium and extensive experience teaching all age groups and levels, Lesley has the ability to inspire and direct a class while encouraging the unique style of individual students.
About this workshop:
This one-day workshop will guide you through the process of drawing and completing a watercolour painting of a Galah. Working from photographs there will be instruction on underlying anatomy and how to make quick sketches and construct preliminary drawings. Students will learn basic drawing and watercolour techniques and with a simple palette will produce one or more completed works by the end of the day.
The workshop is suitable for all levels of skill. Beginners and students with experience drawing and painting are welcome.
Morning and afternoon tea provided. Bring your own lunch or there is a good selection from the local shops.
