About the tutor:

Bonnie Koopmans is an artist, scientific illustrator and recent graduate of the Bachelor of Natural History Illustration at the University of Newcastle. Having previously completed the Bachelor of Communication Design at Monash University, she is a great believer in the importance of accuracy, as well as beauty in scientific illustration. With a steady hand and a bit of patience, Bonnie creates illustrations that represent these principles.

She loves all aspects of nature but has a particular soft spot for insects, and a fascination for their tiny hidden worlds and microscopic features.

About the workshop:

Insects are a fascinating group of creatures! We see them every day, but only rarely do we stop to look closer at their tiny, intricate details and alien anatomy. This one-day workshop will guide you through the process of creating your own black-and-white illustration of these amazing creatures in all their glory! The day will begin with research into your chosen insect, followed by the creation of sketches, experimentation with pen techniques and finally producing your own ink-rendered illustration. Pen techniques such as stippling and hatching are able to capture the textures, form and delicate anatomy of insects with clarity, and make ink an ideal medium for this subject.

Suitable for all levels. A materials list will be available prior to the workshop. Morning and afternoon tea refreshments are included; please bring your own lunch.

Date: Saturday 14 March 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
