Learn all about the unique medium of scratchboard and create a beautiful artwork of a subject of your own choosing with professional artist Linda Lunnon!

About the workshop:

Want to know more about scratchboard as a fine art? This workshop will provide an overview of this lesser known medium, before getting to know some of the tools and techniques used to create a range of textures and effects.

The first day of the workshop is dedicated to learning all about the basics of scratchboard tools and techniques and starting your own scratchboard artwork. Linda will take your through a sampler exercise, learning to create many different marks and textures for drawing wildlife. This will be a lot of fun - and will give you confidence to begin the process of starting your first scratchboard. Today you will create a drawing composition from your chosen photographs, and will transfer your drawing onto the scratchboard surface. Then the mark-making begins!

During the second day, we will progress your artworks applying all the techniques from Day One, with time allocated to create the final details on your work, use of colour for scratchboard and techniques for sealing your finished scratchboard artwork. It takes careful time to finalise a scratchboard artwork, so we will be working through the whole day with the aim to finish our works of art. This is the perfect opportunity to work with Linda in person - as you progress your work!

A materials kit will be available from Linda for $30.00, payable to the tutor on arrival at the workshop. Students can also bring along transparent inks or watercolours to add colour to their finished pieces if they wish.

Create a beautiful scratchboard artwork featuring a subject of your choosing with step-by-step guidance from Linda. By the end of the workshop, you will have gained the knowledge and confidence to produce a 5 x 7 inch wildlife scratchboard. Scratchboard can be an addictive and very therapeutic way to create!

Options:

  • For those wanting to complete a scratchboard sampler and begin an outline of a scratchboard artwork, you can opt to do Day One class only; however,

About the Tutor:

"With a background in environmental science, and a long-time love of drawing plants and animals, I discovered my dream degree, Natural History Illustration degree at University of Newcastle - the perfect blend of art and science! I took a dive into study again and this is where I was first introduced to scratchboard. I really didn't like it at first! But after trying again with different materials and it soon became an addictive way to create. I'm very drawn to starting with an ink black surface and scratching away to reveal highlights and form. Also, being a details kind of person, I love the large amount of detail you can achieve with scratchboard in a relatively small area. I'm a Master Scratchboard Artist with the International Society of Scratchboard Artists (ISSA), with most of my art practice dedicated to bringing Australian flora and fauna to life in scratchboard." - Linda Lunnon
