Australian Bird Series: King Parrot, with Lesley Wallington
King Parrots are widespread across the East coast and ranges of Australia. They live and forage mostly in open forests but are often seen in urban yards and are easily recognised by their striking orange and green colours.

About the workshop:
In this day workshop we get to know the character and features of the King parrot by practicing quick sketches before building up to a detailed drawing. Colour mixing and basic watercolour techniques will be demonstrated as we work towards a completed painting by the end of the day.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will gain an understanding of the basic anatomy of birds, the fundamentals of sketching and drawing and the importance of observation in the field. You will learn how to layer and mix colour and paint on wet and dry as well as gain an understanding of the steps involved in progressing towards a finished work.
Pre-requisites/level: Suitable for 16+ ages, all levels of experience.

About your tutor:
Lesley Wallington is a professional, award-winning artist and tutor with more than 30 years’ teaching experience. Her journey in water-based media, through studies at the ANU School of Art has resulted in innovative approaches to painting and competency across a range of mediums.
With a background in Biology, Ecology and Mathematics Lesley brings together in her work, a love of art, science and nature. As a teacher Lesley combines theory and technical advice with straightforward practical instruction in working with watercolour, gouache, pencil, ink and collage.
With in-depth knowledge of her mediums and extensive experience teaching all age groups and levels, Lesley has the ability to inspire and direct a class while encouraging the unique style of individual students.
