Nature Art Lab
NatureArt Lab offers participants the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and immerse themselves in art inspired by nature. Select a series of courses to suit your interests, and consider developing your foundation skills through a better understanding of colour theory, drawing skills or use of water-based mediums such as watercolour or gouache. Our team of experienced tutors will support your creative learning journey with expert instruction and guidance in a fully equipped art-science space.
Learn to illustrate birds like a professional! This course provides an introduction to bird illustration using gouache, with guidance from professional illustrator Peter Marsack. Students will learn how to accurately illustrate a bird using sketches, observe museum specimens, set up measurements, and refer to resources such as photographs and videos. Topics include bird structure, anatomy, feathers, plumage details, colour and habitat. By the end of the course, students will have completed several studies of familiar local birds, or work on their own projects with expert guidance.
Suitable for beginners and continuing students with some experience using gouache. Students wishing to build foundation drawing skills can consider enroling in 'Drawing 1' with Gillian Carden. Note: NatureArt field observation sessions with Peter Marsack will be available separately.
