A special two-day workshop beginning with a field trip to Namadgi National Park to sketch and gather reference material, followed by a day in the studio working up our observations in pastel as a medium for nature-inspired landscape art!

About the workshop:

We will begin with a field day of sketching, observing and gathering reference material in beautiful Namadgi National Park. This will include a briefing with the rangers about Namadgi and its unique sub-alpine landscape. Our program during the field trip will include two sites with different landscapes, and we will be using a range of materials to record colours, lighting and textures.  We will explore subject choices and sketch studies that support our final works, using a range of different techniques to build familiarity and confidence (not only with pastel). Bring along a picnic lunch to enjoy on location.

Back in the studio on day two, we will work on pastel compositions and develop pastel works from the field observations and sketches.  With expert guidance from Amanda you will have sharpened your powers of observation and expanded your knowledge of soft pastel as a wonderfully expressive medium, all inspired by the beautiful Namadgi National Park landscapes.
