NatureArt Lab offers participants the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and immerse themselves in art inspired by nature. Select a series of courses to suit your interests, and consider developing your foundation skills through a better understanding of colour theory, drawing skills or use of water-based mediums such as watercolour or gouache. Our team of experienced tutors will support your creative learning journey with expert instruction and guidance in a fully equipped art-science space.
Glossy and Metallic - in Colour Pencil with Janet Matthews (2-day workshop)
Learn how to create glossy and metallic surfaces with coloured pencil!
About the tutor:
"Pencils have always been a part of my life, I always knew, deep down, that being a pencil artist was my career path.”
Janet is well known for her signature style of detailed, realistic wildlife artworks with an exciting combination of colour pencils and graphite, capturing their personality and humour. She is a multi-award winning artist, who has exhibited widely in Australia and overseas. In 2018 Janet represented Australia in the World Wide Botanical exhibition, and in 2017 was nominated as the Wildlife Artist of the Year with the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia. Janet's artwork is published in many magazines as well as books, including “50 Top Australian Artists”, “Wild Inspirations“ (Wildlife Art Museum of Australia) and “Flora of Australia”.
About the workshop:
During this two-day workshop will be drawing a Glossy metallic beetle and a Glossy metallic bird. Learn how to achieve intense, vibrant and shiny colours with colour pencil. You will also develop skills with drawing bird feathers and the shiny smooth surfaces of a beetle. Our subjects will be a Ground Beetle and an African Glossy Starling. Both are beautiful vibrant-coloured and extremely glossy in colour.
This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience. Janet teaches with a step by step demonstration and then individual tuition.
Morning and afternoon tea refreshments are included. Please bring your own lunch. A fridge and microwave are available if needed. A materials list will be available on booking.
