NatureArt Lab offers participants the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and immerse themselves in art inspired by nature. Select a series of courses to suit your interests, and consider developing your foundation skills through a better understanding of colour theory, drawing skills or use of water-based mediums such as watercolour or gouache. Our team of experienced tutors will support your creative learning journey with expert instruction and guidance in a fully equipped art-science space.

Introduction to Botanical Art, Term Three 2019 - with Cheryl Hodges

Learn the principles and techniques of botanical art, in order to create a realistic botanical watercolour painting. You will observe and draw plants, looking at composition, tone and form, then bring the drawing to life using washes, glazes and dry brush work for fine details. 

Suitable for beginners through to intermediate students. Morning tea is provided. A materials list will be provided on booking.

Cheryl Hodges

Cheryl Hodges is an award winning local artist who has been painting botanical watercolours since 2000. Her painting technique involves building up the colour in many layers of soft washes, creating an almost translucent effect, then intensifying the final painting with very detailed dry brush work. She enjoys painting Australian native plants and insects. Cheryl is an invited member of the Florilegium of the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney with her painting Eucalyptus tereticornis in the permanent collection.
