Introduction to Leather-working - Art diary Cover with Ceilidh Dalton and Amber Ecclestone (mother & daughter duo)
In this fun introductory course with Amber Eccleston and Ceilidh Dalton, You'll learn basic leatherwork techniques and make your own art diary cover.

About the course:
Ceilidh and Amber will be co-teaching the class, with one or the other taking the lead.
Make your own custom leather cover for their personal journal or
art diary from A6 to A4. You will be introduced to traditional leatherworking tools
and techniques with a focus on hand embossing, natural dyes and pressed leaves.
Techniques will include -
- Safe use of tools, edging, embossing, optimal wetting, dying, burnishing, sealing and
- Two needle saddle stitching techniques
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Safely use of tools
- Employ edging techniques
- Use two needle saddle stitches
- Emboss
- Use natural dyes
- Measure leather and cutting out a pattern
Pre-requisites: This course is suitable for 16+ beginners with little to no bookbinding experience, or for those wishing to build on the foundations of their leather-making practice.
Materials are included in Course: $80.00 (for leather and an art diary); option to bring your own diary (refund of $10.00).
About the tutor:
Amber became interested in leatherworking while doing work experience in high school
with a traditional saddle maker. The skills she learnt in that week she still uses today and passes on to her students. Amber has been teaching Leather workshops at the National folk festival Community Arts for the last three years. She also taught Sheath making, Journal covers and Introduction to leatherworking classes at Tharwa Valley Forge.
