(NEW!) Studio Art Course : PAINTING WITH WATERCOLOUR FOUR - 19 August to 9 September 2022 (Intermediate Lvl 3)
If you have completed our WatercolourSERIES ONE, TWO and THREE foundation courses, then you are ready to take your watercolour painting even further to become an independent watercolourist!
About the course:
Watercolour FOUR has the focus of supporting students to function more independently as an artist. Each week, a new project will combine the technical, observational and compositional skills learnt in the first three foundational Watercolour SERIES courses to produce a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing result.
Through the process of deliberate practicer students will aim to combine the following three qualities in their artworks:
- Artistic Technique is the first essential step covered in the EXERCISES within the first three courses of WatercolourSERIES. These techniques are the building blocks to understanding the personality and controlling the medium. Even if you master the technical skills, you still need good observation to produce good paintings.
- Observation in Art is the skill of seeing things in a new way and translating what you see into shapes on paper and was covered in the STUDIES within the first three courses of the WatercolourSERIES. Observation is shapes, contours, colours of different tonal values, colour matching and seeing big shapes and soul colour amongst the detail.
- Design is about composition and is a skill which can be learnt. Strong composition includes groups of odd numbers, variety, focal points, the rule of thirds, contrast, creating movement and depth, balance, colour harmonies and leading the eye.
At the end of this course, students will be on their way to becoming independent watercolourists and be able to undertake advanced projects (such as our Masterclasses).
