About the course:
Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is known as the natural jewel of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. It comprises 55 hectares of subtropical rainforest overlooking the Glass House Mountains landscape. Nature journaling is all about learning to see, promoting curiosity, asking questions and starting to notice things around you. The nature journal you keep becomes a priceless record of you time spent in nature and a valuable tool for expanding your understanding.
During this three-week nature journaling program you will learn about the principles and practice of nature journaling, along with insights into the extraordinary habitats of this ancient rainforest, and the importance of nature connections and advocacy.
The course will begin in the Discovery Centre and in the outdoor classroom where you will explore a range of materials and mediums used in nature journaling, complete exercises on essential drawing, writing and observation techniques, so you have the skills to take into the field for your nature journaling practice. Petra will discuss the main elements of being a naturalist and explore the key steps for nature journaling using natural icons sourced locally.
Throughout the course participants will have the opportunity to observe, journal, sketch and learn about some of the fascinating interrelations between plants and animals in this unique part of the world.
On completion of this course you will have a beautiful nature journal with a wealth of information on the key plant species of this rainforest reserve. You will also have the confidence to observe, draw and write about the natural world, as well as the knowledge, skills, materials and techniques to develop a personal record of your nature experiences wherever you are in the world.
