Over 11 incredible days, explore Tasmania’s magnificent wilderness through fungi, moss and lichen macrophotography and nature journalling. Accompanied by expert guides, slow down, look closely and discover the extraordinary details of these rich forest environments.

Travel through a range of Tasmania’s cold temperate forests, with wilderness walks in Mount Field National Park, Franklin–Gordon Wild Rivers National Park and Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park. Along the way, develop your photography and nature journalling skills while learning about the remarkable diversity of fungi, mosses and lichens.

Enjoy a full-day Gordon River World Heritage cruise, including visits to Hells Gates, Sarah Island and the Gordon River boardwalk. The itinerary also includes time for photo processing and nature journalling, plus a visit to a wildlife conservation centre to photograph Tasmanian devils, spotted-tailed quolls and eastern quolls.

Your guides are citizen scientist and photographer Christine Jones, NatureArt Lab Founding Director and artist Julia Landford, and zoologist and entomologist Alan Landford.

  • Christine Jones, known as the “accidental fungi huntress” (@mycohuman on Instagram), is an Australian photographer dedicated to documenting the hidden world of fungi. Her work reveals rare and surreal fungal species from some of the wildest corners of Australia and abroad. Christine’s photography has regularly featured in social media posts by organisations such as CSIRO, iNaturalist, Fungimap and OM System (Olympus). As an active citizen scientist, she contributes her fungi observations to iNaturalist. She is particularly interested in tiny, often overlooked fungal species and Cordyceps fungi that parasitise insects and spiders. Her infectious enthusiasm and unique field skills will inspire you to appreciate the vital, unseen world of fungi.

  • Julia Landford is the team leader and Founding Director of NatureArt Lab. She brings substantial experience in natural history, nature journalling and tour management across Australia and internationally.

  • Alan Landford has a scientific background in zoology, specialising in entomology, from the Australian National University. He also brings substantial wildlife experience from Australia, Papua New Guinea, Costa Rica, the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador and Borneo.
