About the tutor:

For many years Muneer has pursued his interest in photography, in particular, bird photography. His work has been widely acclaimed for its unique interpretation bringing character and charisma to his subjects. Muneer was invited by Birdlife Western Australia to exhibit in a musical performance partnership with leading musicians Anthony Albrecht and Simone Slattery, combining photography and music to present a celebration of Australia’s Birds. Muneer’s love of birds comes through clearly in his beautiful photography. He has learned to work closely with birds in their environment to achieve stunning results. Muneer Al Shanti is also a professional architect with an established private practice in Perth, Western Australia.

About the workshop:

During this special four-day workshop Muneer will take you through key concepts to help you improve your bird photography. Topics include lighting, time of day, exposure and getting to know your camera. You will learn how to choose ideal locations, create good composition with your images and learn more about bird behaviour - all elements which contribute to stunning bird photography. The workshop will include both in-class theory and practical field trips to local wetlands and nature reserves as well as to the Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG). The final session of the program will focus on editing software, principles and the basics of personal safety and protection of the environment when in the field.

For Muneer, bird photography is much more than just learning about techniques; bird photography requires personal effort and vision to transfer the experience of the captured moment to the viewer.
