Illustrating Australian Reptiles with Zoe Lawrence
Last month, we had the incredible opportunity to explore the captivating world of one of Australia's most iconic species. Snakes and lizards, often misunderstood or overlooked, took centre stage as we delved into their beauty and uniqueness in the course, Illustrating Australian Reptiles with Zoe Lawrence.
Over the course, our students were given the rare chance to intimately interact with live reptiles, gaining firsthand knowledge and mastering techniques to accurately capture their essence through coloured pencil illustrations. It was a harmonious fusion of art and science, allowing us to raise awareness and foster a deep appreciation for these magnificent creatures and our native fauna as a whole.
The course guided by Zoe Lawrence, an established natural history illustrator with an unwavering passion for showcasing the wonders of the natural world. With a specific affinity for Australia's diverse wildlife, Zoe's journey in Natural History Illustration at the University of Newcastle has propelled her into a realm of creativity and exploration. Throughout the weekend, Zoe imparted her wealth of knowledge, teaching our students the intricate techniques required to bring these reptilian wonders to life on paper.
The course not only provided an unforgettable experience for our students but also allowed them to contribute to the preservation of Australia's rich biodiversity. By using their newfound skills to create compelling illustrations, they became ambassadors for these remarkable species, sharing their passion and inspiring others to cherish and protect our natural heritage.
